Temple Culture
In my country, Taiwan, a diverse temple culture has developed due to the background of religious freedom and colonial history. Temples serve as the closest place for people to connect with the divine, allowing for direct communication between the common people and the gods through the sacred space within the temples. They are not only religious sites but also a synthesis of architecture, sculpture, painting, collage, history, and culture. Temples resemble folk art museums, filled with intricate details. In my project, I focus on capturing the complex and intricate details of temple architecture, aiming to depict the beauty and solemnity of these spaces. The repetitive patterns establish rhythm and harmony, highlighting the inherent symmetry and balance of temple structures, the slanted lighting creates depth and dimension in the images, emphasizing the sanctity of the depicted spaces. Contrasting colors and vibrant elements create a sense of tension, enhancing the mood and atmosphere of the images. Through these artistic techniques, I aim to convey the spiritual and cultural significance of temples, evoking a sense of reverence towards the deities and let the audience to appreciate different cultural heritage and traditions.
